Fundraiser for Special Needs Children

A Harmony Christmas, a Christmas CD by Tressie Seegers and the Sweet Harmony Band, a group of special needs children, is now available. You can order your copy for $10 each from YourTexasMusic.com. Shipping is free and all proceeds go to the Harmony Project, a community-based program dedicated to enriching the lives and performing arts.

The Harmony Project started in early 2009 when two Austin teachers (Fred Morris and Tressie Seegers) met in an AISD high school life skills class. They decided to team up and give special needs students and parents something they needed badly—an adapted fine arts program.

There are few choices parents have when trying to decide how to care for their child with special needs during the summer. So, Fred and Tressie rented space at Akins High School and started The Harmony Project.

It began as a summer day camp filled with art, music, drama, and dance for the kids, and ran from 8-5 for the working parents. Summer 2009 turned out to be a great success. It didn't take long for the word to spread among the special needs community and the classes filled up. The Harmony Project was born.

A key part of this program is to take a number of these children out to perform before live audiences at various music venues in the Austin area. Tressie calls the group the Sweet Harmony Band and from time to time they are joined by other musicians in the area.

The new CD was recorded live on November 24, 2009 at Waterloo Ice House at South Park Meadows in South Austin by Los Senderos Studio in cooperation with Red Boot Music.

All proceeds (100% of the money collected) from the sale of the CD will go to support the Harmony Project for these special needs children.
