Scales and Modes

This chart shows the major scales and their related modes. For example, for C Major the Ionian mode is the C Major scale while the Aeolion mode corresponds to the natural A minor scale. The Circle of Fifths (see chart) gets its name because the fifth note of each major scale corresponds to the key of the next scale as you progress from the most flats to the most sharps (top to bottom in this chart) as indicated by the red arrows.
